The abbreviation MDF wood chip stands for “medium density fiberboard wood chip”. MDF wood chips are bark free, chopped hardwood and softwood pieces. In comparison to pulp wood chips and TMP wood chips, users of MDF wood chips tolerate higher bark contents, longer wood storage time and a less precise fractioning. MDF wood chips also typically contain a variety of wood species. As derived from the name, MDF wood chips are used to produce medium-density wood fiber boards, a special type of particle board. For that purpose, MDF wood chips are run through a refiner for defibration, dried, glued and finally compressed into MDF boards by a through-feed press.
